Every family has a soundtrack. ๐ถ
Sometimes it’s a favorite record spinning on a turntable. Sometimes it’s a song playing on the car radio during a long drive. Sometimes it’s the music drifting through the house on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
For many of us, some of our earliest musical memories came from our dads, grandfathers, or the people who helped guide us through life. โค๏ธ
They introduced us to artists we’d never heard before. They showed us how music could tell a story, lift our spirits, and bring people together. They passed along favorite songs, favorite albums, and memories that continue to live on every time those records play. ๐ต
Long after the years have passed, the music remains.
A familiar melody can instantly transport us back to a living room, a workshop, a front porch, or the passenger seat of a car. It can remind us of laughter, conversations, lessons learned, and the people who helped shape who we are.
For me, Father’s Day will always bring thoughts of my Dad and the music he loved. ๐ธ
My Dad was a musician, and some of my favorite memories are connected to the artists and recordings we shared over the years. Names like Chet Atkins, Lenny Breau, Pat Metheny, Pat Martino, George Benson, and Bill Evans still bring those memories rushing back.
Each artist had a unique voice and style, but they all shared a remarkable gift for musicianship. Through them, my Dad helped me discover not only great music, but an appreciation for the dedication, creativity, and passion behind it.
There are certain recordings that seem to carry a lifetime of memories within them. One of those for me is Some Other Time, the beautiful collaboration between Bill Evans and Tony Bennett. Every time I hear it, I’m reminded of my Dad, his love of music, and the countless ways music connected us through the years. ๐ถ
The musicians may leave us. The years may pass. But the music remains, carrying the memories forward with every note.
This Father’s Day, we celebrate the dads, grandfathers, mentors, and role models who made a difference in our lives. We celebrate the memories they gave us and the music they shared with us along the way. โค๏ธ
Because great music is more than entertainment.
It’s a connection between generations. ๐ต
And some of life’s most treasured memories begin with a song. ๐ป
From all of us at WTSG Digital Broadcasting, Happy Father’s Day.
