On this day in 1976, Blue Öyster Cult released “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper),” the unforgettable single from their landmark fourth studio album, Agents of Fortune (1976).
Formed on Long Island, New York, in 1967, Blue Öyster Cult carved out a unique place in rock history by blending hard rock, progressive influences, intelligent songwriting, and unforgettable guitar work. Written and sung by guitarist Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser (born November 12, 1947), “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” became the band’s signature song and remains one of the defining recordings of classic rock radio.

On this day in 1971, James Taylor (born March 12, 1948) reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “You’ve Got a Friend,” written by Carole King (born February 9, 1942).
The song became Taylor’s only No. 1 single while earning Grammy Awards for both Taylor and King. Carole King’s original version appeared on her groundbreaking album Tapestry (1971), while James Taylor’s heartfelt interpretation introduced the song to millions of listeners around the world.
