💿 1954 — Elvis Presley Releases His First Single
Just one day after we remembered Elvis Presley making his first recording at Sun Studio, another historic milestone followed.
On July 19, 1954, “That’s All Right” backed with “Blue Moon of Kentucky” was released, introducing listeners to a fresh new sound that blended country, blues, and rhythm & blues. Few could have imagined that this modest 45 RPM record would become the spark that helped ignite the rock and roll revolution.
Every musical legend has a beginning. For Elvis, it started with one unforgettable record.
🌍 1988 — Bruce Springsteen Brings Rock to East Berlin
On this day, Bruce Springsteen performed before an estimated 300,000 fans in East Berlin, one of the largest concerts ever held behind the Iron Curtain.
While people came for the music, many left with something even greater—a reminder that songs have the remarkable ability to cross borders, unite communities, and inspire hope. Historians often point to the concert as one of the defining cultural moments leading into the dramatic changes that would soon reshape Europe.

🥇 1986 — Genesis Reach the Top
After years of musical evolution, Genesis earned their first and only U.S. No. 1 single with “Invisible Touch.”
Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford had already built an impressive reputation, but this achievement demonstrated that a band could remain true to its musicianship while continuing to grow and connect with new generations of listeners.

🎸 1976 — Deep Purple Close One Chapter
Deep Purple officially announced their breakup, bringing an end to one of hard rock’s most influential lineups.
Fortunately for fans, the story didn’t end there. David Coverdale would soon launch Whitesnake, while Deep Purple would eventually reunite and continue adding to their remarkable legacy.

🎸 Allen Collins (1952)

🎹 Keith Godchaux (1947)
