🎸 “Help!” Arrives… Along With Three More Pallets of Bananas
On August 6, 1965, The Beatles released their fifth British studio album, Help!—the soundtrack to their second feature film and another milestone during Beatlemania. The album reached No. 1 in several countries, became the first rock album nominated for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, and featured some of the most beloved songs in popular music.

🌙 Stevie Nicks Steps Into the Spotlight
On August 6, 1981, Stevie Nicks released her landmark solo debut, Bella Donna. Already one of the world’s biggest stars thanks to Fleetwood Mac, Stevie proved she could stand on her own—and then some.

💃 Chubby Checker Started a Dance Revolution
On this day in 1960, Chubby Checker performed “The Twist” on American Bandstand, hosted by Dick Clark (1929–2012). The performance helped ignite one of the greatest dance crazes in history. “The Twist” later became the first song ever to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 during two separate chart runs.
American Bandstand aired from 1952 through 1989, introducing generations of Americans to the biggest names in popular music.
Chubby Checker didn’t just record a hit…
He changed how America danced.

Born August 6, 1946, Allan Holdsworth (1946–2017) became one of the most admired guitarists in modern music.

His groundbreaking legato technique, complex harmonies, and fearless improvisation influenced generations of players, including many of rock and fusion’s biggest names.
