🎸 Def Leppard’s Hysteria Changes Rock Forever (1987)
On August 3, 1987, Def Leppard released Hysteria (1987), an album that would eventually become one of the biggest-selling rock records in history.
What makes Hysteria remarkable isn’t simply its incredible list of hit singles—it’s the perseverance behind the music.
Following drummer Rick Allen’s devastating automobile accident in 1984, many believed the band’s future was uncertain. Instead of giving up, Allen adapted, learned to play a specially designed drum kit, and Def Leppard pressed forward. Working alongside legendary producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange, the band spent years perfecting every vocal harmony, guitar layer, and production detail.
The payoff was extraordinary.
The album delivered an unforgettable run of hits, including:
