Climb aboard with CLASSICKONG for a packed September 1 edition of This Day in Music History from WTSG-DB.

Today we celebrate the 1978 release of Styx’s classic Pieces of Eight, Tina Turner’s incredible Private Dancer era, Barry Gibb’s 80th birthday, Gloria Estefan and the unforgettable sound of Miami Sound Machine, and West Coast jazz legend Art Pepper.

We also spend some special time with country icon Conway Twitty and one of CLASSICKONG’s favorite overlooked albums, Borderline—remarkably Conway’s 52nd studio album. From the beautiful “Julia” to “Fifteen to Forty-Three,” “Everybody Needs a Hero,” and “That’s My Job,” it’s a record tied to memories of family and time spent serving overseas.

Then we’re hitting the highway with the great Jerry Reed—master guitarist, singer, songwriter, actor, Chet Atkins collaborator, the unforgettable Snowman from Smokey and the Bandit, and, of course, his four-legged riding buddy, good ol’ Fred.

We’ll also remember Survivor’s tremendous Jimi Jamison, lyricist Hal David and his legendary partnership with Burt Bacharach, revisit David Bowie and Blondie, follow Buddy Holly back to his early radio days, and salute Hall & Oates as what CLASSICKONG calls them:

RADIO LEGENDS.
